Reply:My personal opinion is that names do not have meanings, other than associations with teh person named that. You will get different meanings for the same name depending on what source you look at, and it is simply something someone at some point in time associated with a name.

My oldest daughter is Miranda. To me, that name means a sensitive, caring, considerate young lady who loves animals and art to name a few of the traits.

My son is named Randal, we call him Randy. To me, that name means an active, curious young man interested in anything with wheels.

The baby is named Gwendalyn, and to me that name means a sweet, cuddly baby learning to walk and talk. I associate a love for books and ducks with Gwendalyn as well.

The meanings of their names will change as they change, but will always be original to THEM-not what someone else says. While I know that some people consider what meaning others associate with a name when choosing one, I believe in choosing a name you like and letting the child give it a meaning of his/her own as they grow.
Reply:I actually find that alot of the baby name sites and baby name books have conflicting meanings for names.

For instance, a lot of websites say that the variations on the name mary mean bitter, where as a few say that the meaning has been lost over time, where as others say that mary and its variations mean something along the lines of 'mother'.

My names mirjam (miriam) and it is a hebrew form of mary, which is why i have researched that particular name so much.

I don't have children yet, so i can't give you their meanings, but my kids will probably be called:

Briar - thorny plant

Bran - raven in celtic

Cerese - Cherry Red in french

Mirabelle - wonderous beauty

Benjamin - young one

Meaning of the names Douala and Didinga?

Does anyone know the meaning of the names Douala and Didinga? I'm trying to think of a name for my 2 month old Rhodesian ridgeback puppy and I came across these two, but I can't make up my mind. Maybe it would help me decide if I knew what they meant. Anyway, Douala is a city in Cameroon and Didinga are some mountains in Sudan, but I couldn't find the meaning of them. So if anyone knows please do share! :) Thanks! :)

Meaning of the names Douala and Didinga?
For the name Douala:

Of the works realised by Doual’art, the one with the strongest presence in the city is “Nouvelle Liberté” by Joseph Sumégné, a monumental sculpture erected in 1996 at the Deïdo roundabout. It triggered intense controversy at first, but has since proceeded to become a landmark of the city of Douala. For the international workshop Ars%26amp;Urbis, I selected the task to investigate what this statue means for the people of the city today. Public space is heavily regulated in Europe, leaving few possibilities for individual interventions. In a country such asCameroon, such regulation hardly seems to exist, and public space is always a more or less occupied space. Symbolic occupation of public space plays a major role in cities, too, and in Douala, which is a seaport and an economic metropolis, but not the political capital of Cameroon, it is striking that, for all intents and purposes, the state does not manifest itself. The extreme lack of infrastructure is the result of the complete absence of any responsibility at all on the part of the state, of which nobody seems to expect a thing.

For the other name i cant find anything im sorry.

In Western Australia a lot of place names end with 'up'. Can anyone tell me what is the meaning of this?

Most of these towns are 'down' south of the state, so I presume it has an aboriginal meaning, but no-one can enlighten me.
