Why do people usually do not know the meaning of their names?

because some parents just make up their child's name...i know a guy named Jingjing! go figure...

Why do people usually do not know the meaning of their names?
People have more important things to concern themselves with.
Reply:Because their names meaning isn't too important to them.
Reply:Some people are not into that type of knowledge.
Reply:Simple ! Because the people never name themselves..
Reply:What, buy a whole 500 names book just for 1 name?
Reply:Because their parents don't tell them, I know mine didn't. It's certainly not because I didn't care enough!!!
Reply:they hate their names- y would they want 2 find the meaning?
Reply:In some families, the elders make it a point of tell their children the meanings of their names. Unfortunetly, many families in America are not as tight nitched as others and don't believe in delving into such meaningful issues. It was customary in my family to have story time soley about our ancestors lives, their names and how it affected our choice of names. Folks are just too fast paced these days, and history doesn't mean anything to them.
Reply:Depends, sometimes i wonder if the parents know. Waiting for a bus one day i heard a woman shout her blue eyed, fair haired daughter by the name of Ebony!!!
Reply:because they normaly did'nt choose their own names .
Reply:its just a code ID for them to recognize(LOL), dont mistake it, if we count all languages' alphabets, we get around 2000+/- letters, and words which have meanings around 1 million names, but in olden days (i dont know whether they had brains to think or not) but they, after 1 million names have finished naming, for example : Hitler, they started naming Hitler-I, Hitler-II,...Hitler-n times. but now we r in 21st century man, believe it or not, we should recycle all items we get in our way, EVEN NAMES also, so frm now onwards people donot know their name's meaning at all and its computer era, so only Codes %26amp; Decodes, no names....
Reply:not every name has a meaning...
