hope this answers ur question in brief!! :)
Reply:It's kind of like a different spelling of "Domenica" which is like "Dominique".
Reply:Dementia (from Latin de- "apart, away" + mens (genitive mentis) "mind") is the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal ageing.

Particularly affected areas may be memory, attention, language, and problem solving. Especially in the later stages of the condition, affected persons may be disoriented in time (not knowing what day of the week, day of the month, month, or even what year it is), in place (not knowing where they are), and in person (not knowing who they are).

Symptoms of dementia can be classified as either reversible or irreversible depending upon the etiology of the disease. Less than 10% of all dementias are reversible. Dementia is a non-specific term encompassing many disease processes, just as fever is attributable to many etiologies.

Without careful assessment, delirium can easily be confused with dementia and a number of other psychiatric disorders because many of the signs and symptoms are also present in dementia (as well as other mental illnesses including depression and psychosis). [1]

Reply:I couldn't find it in any of the databases. My best guess is that it is either adapted from something unpronounceable in a tribal dialect or a corruption of the Welsh name Gawain, meaning White Hawk.

It's usally pronounced "Gah Wayn," but some Scots and Irish Gaelic speakers would pronounce it as "Gowan," with the O as in "now."

Sorry I couldn't come up with something more definitive for you. It could also be a movie or literary reference.

Or it could, as Paul says, be a surname or a reference to one.

TAMERA

TAMARA

NATALIE

Gender: Feminine

Usage: French, English, German

Pronounced: nat-a-LEE (French), NAD-a-lee (English), NAH-tah-lee (German) [key]

From the Late Latin name Natalia, which meant "Christmas Day" from Latin natale domini.

I need to know the meaning of the following names.Tamera,Natalie?
I know that Natalie comes from Natal'e, as in Christmas Day, but i checked the site 'whattoexpect.com', and wow, look at all the info they had:

Natalie

(or Natalee, Natalia, Nataly, Natalya, Nathalie, Nathaly) Eastern European

(English/Scottish/Welsh)

French From the Latin Natalia, a name derived from "die`s natalis" (natal day); the name is often bestowed upon children born on Christmas Day...

great site for baby names!!!

congrats!

Does any one know the origin or meaning of the name Edinalia?

The only thing i know about it is that it's either from a portuguese or Brazilian origin, but im not sure

Does any one know the origin or meaning of the name Edinalia?
It's not made up, it's a brazilian name.

But you would reach the same conclusion if you took 15 seconds of your life to search for it in a portuguese search engine and check the results...
Reply:brizilian/goddess of harvest
Reply:wow that's a really pretty name but i have no idea sorry
Reply:its made up.

Do you know the meaning of your favorite names? Does the meaning of the name matter to you?

I don't know the meanings of any of my favorites. I'm probably going to look them up now though.

Would you let the meaning of a name influence your decision when naming your child?

Say you like the name Anna better, but you like the meaning of Victoria better? Which name would you choose in that instance? The NAME you love or the MEANING you love?

Would you purposefully try to find a name with the meaning you want?

Or what if you really liked a name, but hated the meaning?

=)

Do you know the meaning of your favorite names? Does the meaning of the name matter to you?
Unless the name is an English word and I understand the meaning (for example: Summer, Autumn, Robin, Rose, Lily...), it doesn't have any affect on me. And even then, when used as a name, that's how I see those words - no longer as "what" they are.

Personally, I hate the meaning of my name: weary one. My name is Leah, and I am far from weary. I know my name also has a biblical tie, which is a much better way to look at it. Despite the terrible meaning, I like my name. I like the sound of it, and it fits me.

Sure, I admit, it's cool when a person's name means something (like noble, prince, dark forest...). But, all in all, who even knows or bothers to look it up? So, go with whatever name, with whatever meaning, you like:)
Reply:Do I know why my favourite names mean? Sadly no. Not unless their obvious things like Ruby or Rose.

My mom didn't put much stock into picking names by their meaning. My name literally means "Born on Christmas (nativity)". Natalie. Similar to the italian word for Christmas - Natale. I'm a march baby.

For me it's that important. I mean. Obviously if it means something like '********' or 'thieve' or 'scumbag' I'd think it was a dreadful idea. But for me it's not the deciding factor.

I understand why it is important to some people (I know a girl who'se name means something along the lines of beautiful gift - because her parents never thought they could have children). But for me, I guess because my name doesn't have a lot of significance, the actual meaning of the name doesn't hold a huge importance for me.

I have favourite names - most incorporate loved ones. That's what's important to me. Not the meaning behind the name, but what that name means to me.

This is super strange, but all three of my favourite names have similar meanings. Claire/Nora/Helena. Claire means bright. Helena means 'torch' or 'light'. And Nora is short for Eleanora meaning 'light' as well. Strange.
Reply:in many cultures, as well as in my own family, it is very important that a name completely fit a newborn, therefore an official name is put off until the baby has revealed some of its personality. If you really want a perfect name, it isn't enough to consider the name in and of itself, but the name in the context of the baby in question.

and i personally think the connotations of the name itself, never mind what it actually means, will bear more significance in the long run than the literal meaning. but both are important!

oh, and i would pick Victoria, because i like the way it sounds AND the meaning better. =) lol, i know that' s not what you were asking, but i would. don't forget to consider what nicknames will come with whichever name you choose! don't name her Cecilia unless you want her to be called Sessy forever! ;-D
Reply:For the most part names meanings do not play a part in whether or not I like them. But there are some definite exceptions. My favorite name in the whole world is Persephone. According to "behind the name" it means "murderer". I just can't ignore the morbidness of this meaning. Same with the name Tristan, as much as I love the name "sad" just kind of kills it for me.

For the most part , names have pretty pleasant meanings. "Who is like God", "white shouldered", " from the meadow", things like this. These meanings would not effect my choosing a name.

So I would have to say for me a really negative meaning would make me eliminate a name, but I would not choose a name because of it having a particular meaning. As a parent I will hear the sound of the name a lot more than I will think about the meaning.
Reply:I've actually looked up the meanings of all 110 of my (current) favorite names, and I don't particularly dislike any of them.

It would really depend on how much I liked the name, whether I would drop it because of its meaning. For instance, I didn't mind the name Kennedy, but I found out that it means 'ugly head' and totally kicked it off my list. But if it had been one of my favorites, I would have given it a bit more consideration.

I think meaning does play a pretty big role in the names I choose. Whenever I find one I like, the first thing I do is look up its meaning to make sure it's not something negative. That being said, though, I do like the name Cecelia, which means 'blind'.

Really, it's all a matter of how much I like the name. Good question, though!

♠ Qüééñ
Reply:the meaning does influence the names that i like..

but i wouldnt choose victoria over anna JUST BECAUSE i like the meaning a little better.. but i WOULD choose victoria over avery.. because i HATE the meaning of avery= elf ruler.. yuck.

and i did find a middle name for my cousins baby by the meaing.. Ricci means curly haired :) and its cute!

and i actually liked the name avery before, but the meaning ruined it for me.
Reply:Honestly, I didn't like the sound of my son's name in the beginning (Bodhi, pronounced "BO-dee"), but his father and I are both Buddhist, and it means Enlightenment of the highest degree. I loved other boy names like Sebastian, Leo, Samuel, August, etc... but I couldn't get past the awesome meaning of Bodhi.

That's the name he ended up with. :)

Oh, his dad wanted his middle name to be Ahadayanda or Abebe due to their meanings, but my poor son is as caucasian as the day is long, so I beat his dad back with a stick and dubbed him "Bodhi Lucian"...

"Enlightenment, surrounded by light".

LOL. Have fun!
Reply:Well my fav name for a boy is Brody and it means "a ditch" LOL not very meaningful but I still really love the name and dont care. For my girl names I think the meanings matter for for some reason, and my two fav names go perfect together and i didnt even plan it. Kaelani means of the sky and sea, and Hallie means thinking of the sea so that works! I wish Brody had a stronger meaning but I love the name so much that i will overlook it.
Reply:i think the meaning of a name is important but its not everything..for instance my name means brilliant :) i like the meaning but i dnt like the actual name! and my parents didnt even know the meaning when they named me..they just thought its a nice name..

when it comes to naming my child i wud like a name that i both like and like its meaning..but i think its bad to give a child a weird name just bcz it has a nice meaning..

+ i think that parents shud seriously consider the country they're living in before they name their kids!! its good to give ur kids that mean something in ur culture but it sucks for the kid when his friends cant even pronounce his name!!
Reply:I really don't care that much about the meaning of the name. Especially since the first thing someone does after meeting a person is not, go back to their computer and look up the meaning of their name. I picked my daughter's name based on sentimental value and that is far more important to me.
Reply:My name means little and strong, i like it :)

i like the name Kennedy and it means royal and i like Paige, which means young child, Phoebe which means bright and Lara meaning shinning

and i like the name Gladys, but it means lame!!!
Reply:I don't care about the meaning of the name... apparently my parents didn't care (min means bitter, my bro's means ruler of the house), otherwise they'd have made the meanings more even between us two. If I like a name, I'll use it.
Reply:um, yeah. i know the meaning of my name.

of my favorite ones now, i don't think so.

but yes. . .that does make for a hard decision.

name her Victoria Anna

or Anna Victoria

or Anne Victoria. etc
Reply:i'd use my fav

Sarah-Princess (cute meaning in my head)

Grace- Graceful Blessing (Cute meaning)

Katelyn- Pure

Emily- ??

Leah- Weary

Reply:i don't find names according to meaning. if it sounds right that's all that matters to me. the meaning comes after i decided on the name..
Reply:The meaning of a name is meaningless to me. I prefer that the name sounds nice; that it will work for both a child and an adult.
Reply:I'd choose a name based on the name I love and not what it means, that's just me. Of course, I wouldn't choose a name that had an awful meaning, though.

Reply:It's really the sound of the name that matters more to me I probably wouldn't choose a name where I hated the meaning, though, even if I really liked the sound.
Reply:The meaning of a name is not even a big deal. If you like one name more than the other choose that one.

My names meaning has that of the God of War (Mars)
Reply:I wouldn't pick a name that i didn't already like because of its meaning but I have knocked a couple off the list because of their meanings. Hope this helps!
Reply:My name means Pure Worshiper of God.

I think it is important to know what your name means.
Reply:my name means God's promise and i like the meaning better than the name.
Reply:my favourite name means princess, i liked it alot before i knew what it meant
Reply:My name means "princess" (Sarah).

MY FAVORITES:

Miriam Elisabeth

Miriam : most likely from "mr" from the Egyptian word "beloved"

Elisabeth : Hebrew "God is my oath/God has promised" In the Bible, she was the mother of John the Baptist (and aunt to Jesus as well actually) - John mean "God has given" The story of John's birth/coming into this world are described pretty much in their names. Elizabeth was promised a son (John) and God gave him to her...

Wren Charlotte

Wren : the bird! :)

Charlotte : it's basically the feminine form for Karl/Carl. I forget now what Carl means though. I do know it is Germanic. Perhaps "power"??

Rosamund Adeline

Rosamund : "Horse protector" - no, the origins of this name have NOTHING to do with Roses. Hros is an old Germanic name for Horse; "mund" means protector/protection

Adeline : "Noble" from the old German word for noble - Adel. (Today, this word is Edel, pronounced "ay dull" - as in Edelweiss)

Bennett : I don't know/I've forgotten (I'll look it up as soon as I'm finished here!)

Heath : It's short for Heathcliff, which means valley of Heather. I suppose Heath can simply mean "the flower, Heather"?

Holden : no doubt another place name (it is also a surname), but I forget. (I think it's similar to "hold" as in "strong hold"...)

Colton : "Coal town" place name/surname. No doubt meaning someone coming from a town where coal was the main trade.

What makes my favorite names special (well, the GIRL names...) IS the meaning - not the translation/definition of the name, but the names' meanings too me. All of my girls' names are honoring someone very special to me.

----------

Overall, I will use a good sounding name with a bad meaning over a name that sounds bad/ugly but has a good meaning.

For example, the name Shiphrah. Shiphrah was a Hebrew midwife in Exodus that refused to kill the Hebrew sons when Pharaoh ordering them killed. I love the meaning, but wouldn't use the name b/c of the way it sounds.

However, Claudia is on my girl's list and Cameron on my boy's list - even though Claudia means "lame" and Cameron means "crooked nose."
Reply:yeah i would so if i wanted a shy daughter then li'rael if i wanted a really special name then isabella

Does anybody know the meaning of the name Eiress?

I may have spelt it wrong but I believe that it is the Goddess of Chaos. Or something like that?

Does anybody know the meaning of the name Eiress?
Eris is the daughter of the Greek god of war, Ares...

so as a god of Chaos, she likes chaos, so she brings it down to earth n the humans..Eris is probably jus a name..or maybe, it jus represents chaos..
Reply:The name of a game playing character.

Also the sister of Ares. The name means Goddess of Strife and Discordiaism.

John, Justin, George, William, Harry, Richard, Thomas, Paul, Michael.

I want to know what each of these words mean.

Reply:I think the answer of the member of yahoo questions called (avik d2000 ) is the suitable answer to your question.
Reply:The name John comes from "Yohanan", a word in Biblical Hebrew which means "Yahweh(God) is merciful".

The name George has its origin in ancient Greek Geōrgios (Γεώργιος), a derivation of the noun geōrgos (γεωργός) "husbandman, farmer", a compound of gē (γῆ) "earth" and ergon (ἔργον) "work".

William is derived from the Norman language, and of Germanic origin: "wil" = will, desire; "helm" = helmet, protection.

Harry is a diminutive form of Henry, derived from Middle High German Haimirich, meaning 'ruler of the Home', and also of Harold.

The first or given name Richard comes from the Germanic elements 'ric' (meaning power, rule, leader) and 'hard' (meaning brave, hardy, strong). It can thus be interpreted to mean strong ruler, brave leader, firm rule or any of many similar variations.

Thomas originated from the Aramaic designation "תום" or Tôm. The meaning of the name is "twin".

Paul is a common given name for males, derived from the Roman surname Paulus (Latin: "small" or "humble").

The given name Michael or Micha'el (מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל "who is like God?" or "likened unto God".
Reply:All are angels!
Reply:They are names, they don't have a special meaning. For the origin of these namens, just ask Google.
Reply:These names are either related to bible or charactors in it. Translate in aramaic etc to have meaning.
Reply:U better ask ur teacher,

Since u r the teachers pet
Reply:Each has a 'supposed' meaning. Maybe someone with a book on babies names can supply the answer.

What is the meaning of the name
Pliocene Epoch?

fifth epoch of the Cenozoic era of geologic time

What is the meaning of the name

Pliocene Epoch?
"The Pliocene was named by Sir Charles Lyell. The name comes from the Greek words pleion (more) and ceno (new) and means roughly "continuation of the recent" and refers to the essentially modern marine mollusc faunas."
Reply:Pliocene epoch (pl墨'蓹s膿n) , fifth epoch of the Cenozoic era of geologic time (see Geologic Timescale, table), from 5.1 to 2 million years ago. By the beginning of the Pliocene, the outlines of North America were almost the same as in recent time. Encroachments by the sea were limited to a narrow strip along the coasts of the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and the Gulf Coast states, and an embayment, smaller than that of the preceding Miocene epoch, in California. The Pliocene formations on the Atlantic coast are chiefly marine marls; on the Gulf they are nonmarine sediments resulting from erosion. In California they contain much volcanic ash and some are oil-bearing. The Pliocene formations of the western interior are small and scattered. In western interior North America and on the west coast, volcanic activity continued into the Pliocene from the Miocene. The close of the Pliocene was marked in North America by the Cascadian revolution, in the course of which the Sierra Nevada was elevated and tilted to the west. The Cascades, Rockies, Appalachians, and the Colorado plateau were uplifted, and there was activity in the mountains of Alaska and in the Great Basin ranges of Nevada and Utah. In Europe the Pliocene sea covered small parts of the northwest of the continent and a large area around the present Mediterranean; a number of volcanoes were active, among them Vesuvius and Etna. There was considerable mountain building, including the folding and thrusting of the Alps. The climate of the Pliocene was markedly cooler and drier than that of the Miocene and foreshadowed the glacial climates of the Pleistocene epoch. The life of the Pliocene was notable for its modern appearance; the Pliocene marked the climax, and perhaps the initial decline, of the supremacy of the mammals.

What is the meaning of exponents following the name of an ion?

For instance, for an ion named Fe^3 , what is the significance of the three? Does this mean that it is lacking three electrons? Are the exponents relevant when I'm balancing the cation with the anion, or only subscript numbers?

For that matter, how do I tell if a binary ionic compound is type one or type two? That is, how do I know which metals can form more than one type of positive ion? Do I have to just memorize this information?

I'm fairly dumb in this subject, just trying to get through preliminary summer homework for a class, so bear with me.

What is the meaning of exponents following the name of an ion?
the exponent stands for the net charge....Fe3+ means it is postive 3 or that it has three less electrons than protons...Cl-1 has one more electron than protons
Reply:Use your reference table if you have one. In NY we get one.

What is the meaning of the name Isamara?

I am expecting a baby girl in December and someone suggested this name. I know its Portuguese but cant seem to find the meaning on the web. I hope someone can help.

What is the meaning of the name Isamara?
why does it matter what it means? I mean, if you like it, like to say it and think your baby girl will fit that name you chose for her, then what does it matter if it means, "wind" or "dawn" or "dog jumping over a fence". I have a friend named after a Swahelii word for giraffe-everyone buys her giraffe stuff, but she doesn't care that much for them....I also know a girl named Paloma, which is Dove in Spanish-but she's dark brown. Maybe Isa and Mara are two words put together to mean something? Maybe they dont mean anything...if you like it, use it. I think its pretty, but im not too sure how to pronounce it.
Reply:Yes - It is a Portugu锚s female name. The meaning is not available, but I could get by this name teaching at Angaturama School, Sao Poulo, Brazil and she is a Portuguese settled there.

I have also found a name "Isamara Amancio" in the community (Group) called "we love the Isamara" (www.orkut.com/community..).

So if you like you can name your baby as "ISAMARA"

Best of luck

What is the meaning of the name vicky?

and what is the birthstone, birth flower for it too?

What is the meaning of the name vicky?
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/...

Vicky is a short of Victoria:

The girl's name Victoria \v(i)-cto-ria, vic-toria\ is pronounced vic-TOR-ee-ah. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "victory". Feminine form of Victor. Victoria was a goddess who smiled on the ancient Roman people for many centuries. Early Christians adopted the name, probably due to Saint Paul's praise of "God, which giveth us the victory". Royal associations from 19th-century England's Queen Victoria and the four-syllable pronunciation give Victoria an air of dignity, formality and distinction. Victoria's short forms and nicknames are very informal by contrast. Vittoria is an Italian form; Viktoria is Czech.

Victoria has 30 variant forms: Tori, Toria, Torie, Tory, Toya, Vic, Vicci, Vickee, Vickey, Vicki, Vickie, Vicky, Victoriana, Victorie, Victorina, Victorine, Victory, Vika, Viki, Vikkey, Vikki, Vikky, Viktoria, Viktorija, Viktorina, Viktorine, Viktorka, Viqui, Vitoria and Vittoria.

Wat are the meaning of these names?

baily(bay-lee) jayne

jack william pierce

harlow gia winter

jordan ryde michael

charmine lioan(lee-own)

crystal renee rylie

Wat are the meaning of these names?
Baily means 'Bailiff' and Jayne means 'God is gracious'.

Jack means 'God is gracious', William means 'Protection' and Pierce means 'Stone'.

Harlow means 'Hill with heaps of rocks', Gia means 'God is gracious' and Winter simply means 'Winter'.

Jordan means 'Descend', Ryde means 'Ride' and Michael means 'Like God'.

Charmine means 'Charming' and Lioan means 'Lion'.

Crystal means 'Crystal', Renee means 'Reborn' and Rylie means 'Rye Clearing'.

Good luck!
Reply:Bailey is an occupational surname for those who were bailiffs - sheriffs, mayors and other officials.

Jane is a feminization of John - "God is gracious."

Jack is a nickname from John, so again, "God is gracious."

William comes from old Germanic elements that mean "desire" and "protection" - it's tough to put that into one concept, so they're usually listed exactly like that.

Pierce is a surname related to the given name Peter, which means stone or rock.

Harlow is a surname with disputed meaning; I've seen it most often as a geographic name designating a hill.

Gia is short for Gianna or Giovanna, the feminine versions of the Italian Giovanni - or John. So, again, "God is gracious."

Winter is simply the season.

Jordan is from the Biblical river. The name means something like "flow down" in Hebrew.

Ryde puzzles me. There are places in England and Australia called Ryde, but it doesn't have any history as a given name.

Michael is from a Hebrew name that means "who is like God?" That actually means something along the lines of "no one is like God."

Charmine is tricky. Assuming it's a variant of Charma, it means joy or delight, from the Greek. If it's a variant of Carmen, it means song.

Lioan doesn't appear to have any distinct origins; I assume it is invented, and thus without defensible etymological roots.

Crystal means clear, from a Greek word that means ice. Renee is a form of Renatus, meaning born again. Rylie, assuming it is a respelling of Riley, actually has no confirmed meaning, despite being a common surname, though some suggest that it is related to an old English word for rye, the grain - as in a place where rye is grown.

ETA: Be wary of any site that gives you unambiguous meanings for names. Behindthename.com is fabulous - beautifully researched and accurate, and quick to note when names are in dispute. But many personal names have hundreds, if not thousands, of years of history behind them - and that makes pinning down an exact meaning quite challenging, really nearly impossible at times.
Reply:Baily Old English: Bailiff, Steward. Jayne Modern English: God is Gracious

Jack Middle English: God is Gracious. William Old English: Will, Helmet Pierce Old English: Rock Harlow English: Troops on the Hill Gia Old English: Earth Winter Old English: Winter Season Jordan Old English: Flow, Descend Ryde ???????

Micheal Irish: Who is Like God?

Old English: Who is Like God?

Scottish: Who is Like God?

Charmine ????? Lioan ?????? Lion????

Crystal Old English: Clear, Brilliant Glass

Renee French: Reborn

Rylie Celtic: Rye Meadow

Harlow is Nicole Ritchie's girl, Gia was a drug-addict lesbian model who died of AIDS, Ryde is like Ryder Goldie Hawn's grandson, and just a hint- if you have to put parentheses with the phonetic spelling of a name- you can bet it will be a life long curse.

Just spell them the common way would you? Give your kid a chance to find a mug with her name on it! Protect him from the anxiety of teachers and strangers misspelling his name and then rolling their eyes at your attempt to be unique.

Save the "creative" naming for your pets. At least their feelings won't get hurt on the first day of school every year.

What is the name meaning of Pransh ?

Hi ,

I am tring to find a good name for my newly born baby boy .

I have come across the name Pransh . However i am not able to find its meaning or referance for it . Can anybody help me in this regard ?

What is the name meaning of Pransh ?
Hmm, in Hindi "Pran" means life. The name "Pranesh", which is very similar to the "Pransh" that you're asking about, means Lord of life. Perhaps that's the name you're asking about, just a slightly different spelling/misspelling of it?

Meaning of baby names & spelling?

What's the meaning behind the name Jake? I guess you migth have to go by Jacob - even though his given name IS Jake. And what's the most common spelling of the name "maya" (or mya?) Do you think if most people would pronouce "maya" as "my-uh" and not "may-uh"??...anyone know the meaning behind that one? Origin?

Meaning of baby names %26amp; spelling?
Jake comes from Jacob, which means "he who supplants".

I'd spell Maya as Maya or Maia. Both are said like "mah-yah".

Maya comes from the name of Central American Indian empire (you know, Mayans and Aztecs).

Maia is greek meaning "mother", so you could choose the spelling based on the origin.

I guess the Maia spelling is older, because of its Greek mythology background. Maia was also a Roman goddess from whom the name for the month of May originated.

The Maya spelling is more common nowadays, though.
Reply:Jake is a nickname for Jacob (duh, right?) which means that the meaning is exactly the same. Here's an article that will tell you all about the name Jacob, including origin, meaning, popularity and name variants: http://wiki.name.com/en/Jacob

Here's an article about the name Maya: http://wiki.name.com/en/Maya

Maya is the most common spelling. Mya is next, and Maia is somewhere down the chart a ways, along with Myah. I think most people would pronounce it My-uh, but with the "a" there, there's the definite possibility for mistake. Any of the "y" spellings make it clearer.
Reply:Jake means supplanter; held by the heel.

More on Jake..

I think either spelling of Maya works. I prefer Mya, but I think the other one is just as easy to pronounce. I'd pronounce it My-uh.

Reply:I say Mya for both spellings.

Maya was used a little more often as the spelling for baby girls born in the US last year. Here is the number of girls with each of the spellings.

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the name Rinoa?

I want to call my child this, because I love the name, but I wondered what it actually meant?!

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the name Rinoa?
I found this on a search.....Rinoa is the name of a character from a video game, Final Fantasy VIII. The game was originally Japanese. Though there isn't 100% confirmation, experts on video games seem to believe that the Japanese creator of the game actually named the character with the French name "Lenore" in mind. The closest he could get to "Lenore" in Japanese was to use characters that are pronounced as "Rinoa". When the game was brought to the United States, the manufacturer used the sound of the characters in Japanese for the English name of the character rather than reverting to the original Lenore.
Reply:I believe it is a derivative of Lenore created for the final fantasy game (which is still an ok name, wendy was a derivative of Gwenevere for Peter Pan) Lenore comes from Eleanore, which means "the other Aenor" (Aenor being an old french name)

Meaning of last names?

What do you mean?

Meaning of last names?
Last names are relatively new in history. Traditionally, they were created to answer census takers questions. "Mac" means "son of", so MacArthur means "Son of Arthur" . Smith and Baker are derived from occupations, such as blacksmith, or baker. So the census taker would ask questions like "what is your name?" and the person would respond "John". And the census taker would say, in exasperation, "John who? There are 10 Johns in this village." So, John would reply, "John the baker". He was listed as John Baker. A name like Dupont is derived from the fact that "Jean" lived near a bridge, versus the "Jean" that was a playboy; he became Jean Jolicoeur. Shearson was derived from someone who sheared sheep. And on and on.
Reply:I remember reading about last names a few years so I'm not really sure how accurate it was but it makes sense. Back in the day (I don't know any dates) when people began to create towns and live in communities they needed away to distinguish between people with the same first name. People just began to give people last names by what they were known for let it be your occupation or anything that stuck out about you. So if you were a baker your last name was Baker. If you were a writer or something your last name would be Reid. If this is the real reason last name started off as nicknames but gradually became a neccesity

Meaning of gun names?

what are the meaning in gun names. for example what does the "ak" and "47" mean in ak-47? also, what about m1?

Meaning of gun names?
Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947

Names are often the creator or designer and the year of the specific model. Some do not have year or dates.

E.I. Thompson Sub machine gun
Reply:theyve already enriched you on the ak 47..."M" is simply the US Govt designation for a weapon series, infantry weapons. then you get A1, 2 etc for variations of the particular weapon.
Reply:I am not 100% on the AK, but the numbers usually refer to model number, at least for us (eg. M-14 rifle= model 14 rifle). I know that the AK is also called Kalishnikov, so I assume that would be the K in AK, leaving 47 as the model number. Wikipedia gives it as Automova Kalishnokova 1947, which would be the model year.

Wow. 60 years and still effective.
Reply:A little further info on the AK-47, though 007 and Hormoth did a good job on associating it with the maker. Kalashnikov was a tank mechanic towards the end of World War II. During his time in the field, he became acquainted with the German assault rifle, known as the Sturmgewehr. The AK-47, is the Russian adaptation of that German weapon, employing a rugged design and ease of manufacture, making it the most widely distributed small arm in the entire world. Estimates are that over 49 million of these rifles have been produced and sent round the world.
Reply:Avtomat Kalashnikova, the name of the designer.

Meaning of these names?

My daughters name is Shelby Graclin ...Can anyone tell me the meaning of either of these names so I can put it in her baby journal . Thanks very much in advance

Meaning of these names?
Shelby is a unisex variant of Selby, from a place name/surname meaning "willow farm" in Old English.

Graclin is simply a recently-created name combining the popular sounds of Grace and Lynn, so while it doesn't actually have a meaning, you might try listing the meanings for both of those independent names.

Grace meaning, quite simply, grace, and Lynn stemming from a surname related to the Welsh "llyn," meaning "lake."

So to VERY loosely give Graclin the etymological meaning it lacks, you might try combing this to get "graceful lake" ... at least for the sake of the baby journal.

Here's a link, by the way. :) http://www.behindthename.com/php/search....

Hope that helps.
Reply:shelby: a place where willows grow; sheltered

graclin: good-willed
Reply:Shelby means 'From The Town In The Hollow' and is an English name.

Gracelyn (Graclin as you spelt it) means 'Grace By The Lake ' and is an American name.
Reply:sounds like a racecar driver's name.

PS Good luck to Shelby when people try to pronounce her name especially in school.
Reply:What a cute name!

Shelby means: Ledge estate... it is a place name... it means a big beautiful house on a cliff. It can also mean house in the hollow, which again is a house in the woods.

Grace means graceful or charming like a ballerina, and it can also refer to the Grace of God (ie God's love for us and His divine influence in our lives)

Lynn means waterfall.

It's a beautiful name!

I would write down what it means, but also write why you chose those names, since it wasn't for the meaning. Maybe write what you liked so much about Shelby, and how you got Graclin with the spelling you chose.

Can u find out what is the meaning of these names;?
Nice answers , but let me give a hand about Vincense .

In Itaian : Vincere means " to win " .
Reply:Denis is the French version of Dennis, ori Dyonisius (the son of the god Dyonisos). The meaning of Dyonisos is not certain. The word dyo means 2.

Vincence is a variant of Vincent. That is victorious.

Cheyru is probably a japanese name. Or a surname.
Reply:for denise-is a female derivative of dennis- from greek dionysis-god of wine
Reply:chim-chiminy-chim-chiminy-chim-chim-Chey... lol
Reply:Denis: Devotee of Dionysos

Vincense:girls name for Vincent

Cheyru:?!?
Reply:Denis is a (French)form of Dionysos a title of an ancient Greek god of vegetation, especially wine, the original meaning of the name is unknown, most think it's "god of Nysos"(placename)

Vincense comes from a Latin word for "victorious", but I can't help you with Cheyru.
