What is the meaning of the name Goward?

My name is Goward So I am just curious about the name.

Reply:I couldn't find it in any of the databases. My best guess is that it is either adapted from something unpronounceable in a tribal dialect or a corruption of the Welsh name Gawain, meaning White Hawk.





It's usally pronounced "Gah Wayn," but some Scots and Irish Gaelic speakers would pronounce it as "Gowan," with the O as in "now."





Sorry I couldn't come up with something more definitive for you. It could also be a movie or literary reference.





Or it could, as Paul says, be a surname or a reference to one.
