Meaning of names you chose?

Did you consider the meaning(s) of the names you chose for your children? I am just asking b/c I was looking through a baby names book and saw some interesting meanings for typical names.

Meaning of names you chose?
No I never considered the meaning. I chose names because of what they meant *to me* not because of their literal meaning.

My baby son is called Arthur. My partner suggested this - in honour of "King Arthur" - the mythological King of the Ancient Britons. As I'm Welsh and my partner is English, we felt this reflected our son's Celtic British heritage. Arthur was also my partner's grandfather's name and it was my great uncle's name (who died in WWI), so the name has special meanings for both of us!

When I looked in baby name books apparently Arthur is derived from Ancient Celtic words: "Artus" which means "Bear" or "Art" which means "Stone". Means nothing to me! Thats not why I chose it.

His middle names are David William, after his two uncles.

If my son had been a girl he would have been called Rose - because Roses are my favourite flower. For middle names for a girl I chose Catrin (the Welsh spelling of my own name, Katherine) and Angharad - a Welsh name which my mum loves, but I have no idea of the meaning of!

I don't really care what names mean. I would never choose a name I didn't like just because of its meaning or disregard one I did like because the meaning wasn't right. I choose names because of what they mean *to me*.
Reply:My daughter's name means "delightful". I thought that was fitting for our first child.
Reply:the name has meaning to me but i wasnt so much worried about the 'actual' meaning as long as it wasnt something bad...my daughters name is similar to mine, her name being madisyn and mine madilyn. the meaning of madison i believe is warrior so im ok with that.
Reply:me and hubby liked the named Dominic...then we decided to look the meaning up and it meant "belonging to God" ..both of us being christians..thought it was pretty cool .
Reply:I have 3 kids

Brisa-means Beloved

Azael- Strong from God

Bryanna- Strong

My 3 kids have middle names too and they are not common names either.. :)
Reply:I have 7 kids and never considered the meaning of any one of their names. I read them, but found quite often that another book would give another meaning for the same name, so we ignored it all together.
Reply:I have twins and their names have roughly the same meanings Niko and Mika
Reply:For both of my boys, their first names are names that we both liked and their middle names have meanings. My first son is Tyler James.....James is the "male" version of the name we share (Jamie...my first name %26amp; hubbys middle name).

Our second son, just born 3 weeks ago, is Riley Michael...Michael is in honor of my husband's good friend that recently passed away.

The "actual" meaning of the names doesn't have any impact on what I name my children. But I name them for something/someone that means something to me or my husband.
Reply:I chose my son's name by using both of my father's names (my biological dad passed away when I was 10 and my 2nd dad - I don't like the term step, has treated me like I was his own since day one.) So my son is named Thomas Uriah (Thomas was my father's first name, Uriah is my 2nd dad's middle name)
Reply:yes i considered the name meanings when i was naming all of my babies.
Reply:I checked the meaning to make sure it wasn't something weird, but it didn't have anything to do with why I picked it in the first place.
