I know that Hafsa was the name of Nabi SAW's wife and I BELIEVE Hudhaifa is the name of a Sahabi, but what do these names mean?
What are the meaning(s) of the names Hafsa and Hudhaifa?
Hafa is Arabic daughter of a LION..She was married to Khunais ibn Hudhaifa, but became a widow when she was eighteen. According to Islamic tradition, after Abu Bakr and Uthman ibn Affan refused to marry her because Muhammad had told them that he intended to marry her. [2] When her father, Umar, went to Prophet Muhammad to complain about their behavior, Prophet Muhammad replied, "Hafsa will marry one better than Uthman and Uthman will marry one better than Hafsa."[3]
Prophet Muhammad married her after the battle of Badr in 2 AH. Hafsa was around twenty years old and Prophet Muhammad fifty-six at the time of marriage [4]. By this marriage, Prophet Muhammad strengthened his ties to and Umar, who now became his father in-law.
According to Islamic tradition, Hafsa had memorized the Qur'an. The copy of Zayd ibn Thabit which was recorded by the instructions of Abu Bakr was given to Hafsa. Uthman, when he became a Caliph, used Hafsa's copy when he attempted to develop a definitive text of the Qur'an.
Reply:I did a quick google and checked a few websites to get a consensus. Hafsa means a young lioness. Hudhaifa, well i checked several sites and they all said its "an old Arabic name".
